Hurston Warren Camp, 6th-8th June 2003
This was the second of our two summer camps. The first of these was held at Petworth Park over the Mayday Bank Holiday. This one was based at Hurston Warren and had a bird theme. Unlike our first summer camp, this was just our unit.
It started in drizzle late on Friday afternoon. Some of the parents provided considerable assistance in moving the masses of camping gear and helping put up tents. This was very much appreciated.
Friday evening was spent preparing the camp and assembling the tents. A meal was prepared and a late night was had by all!
On Saturday, our challenge was to navigate our way to the RSPB site at Pulborough Brooks. This was done using a set of clues and our map reading skills. Despite the early rain, the sun came out and we had a lovely warm day. Once there, we set about investigating the life in one of the ponds (some of us from inside the pond!) and were treated to a little bird-watching.
Later, we played a wide game performing may challenges and eventually winning our supper. In the evening we built a campfire and cooked marshmallows on it.
On the Sunday, we played games and struck camp. Again, the help given in dismantling the camp and returning the equipment to the Guide Hall was very much appreciated.
