Eye to Ei Challenge (20th-22nd Feb 2004)
We took part in a Challenge to go from the London Eye to the Eiffel Tower to join in a celebration of Thinking Day with 1200 Guides and Rangers from London and the South East of England. The challenge was in aid of the charity Sightsavers International, and the girls were all sponsored. It is anticipated that overall the Guides across the southeast and London will earn £25000 for this charity!
We started bright and early on the Friday morning at Pulborough Station to catch a Train up to London. We then went to the London Eye, booked on the 12:00 'Flight'. A very cold, but clear day gave us lovely views over London's skyline. Our newest guide took her Promise on the 'Flight'. We then jumped on to the Eurostar and sped through the Channel Tunnel to Paris, arriving later that afternoon. After checking into our hotel, we found a restaurant and had dinner.
Next morning, we ventured on to the Metro and headed for the River Seine where we took Les Vedettes du Pont-Neuf river cruise to see all the riverside sites: Muse de Louvre, le Jardin des Tuileries, Place de la Concorde, la Tour Eiffel, Muse D'Orsay, and Notre Dame. The girls then decided that they would like to go down 'Les Egouts' (the sewers) one of Paris's newest attractions! This proved very interesting and aromatic! Following the sewers, we went to Les Etoiles du Rex. This was an old classic cinema where we went on an interactive audio-guided visit, became actors in a famous film, and had a magic journey into the heart of the movie backstage. We even came away with our own video starring all of us in a high seas adventure!
On Sunday, we met the other 1200 girls at the Eiffel Tower and joined in a celebration ceremony for Thinking Day with French Guides half-way up the Eiffel Tower (some of the girls walked up!). Of course, we also went all the way to the top where it was very cold and windy. After the ceremony we dashed back to Gare du Nord to catch the train back to Blighty, arriving back at Pulborough during the evening. We all then slept very well!
