Petworth Park Camp, 1st-3rd May 2004
This was the first camp of the season and was held at Petworth Park over the Mayday Bank Holiday. This is a district scout and guide activity camp and was attended by around 200 guides and scouts. This year was the 25th anniversary of camping at Petworth Park, so the theme was silver. We were part of the 'Silverstone' sub-camp (together with Chanctonbury Rangers, Storrington & Sullington Scouts, Fittleworth Scouts and Fittleworth Guides). Although we had a little drizzle as we built camp, we had blazing sunshine for most of the time.
During the first afternoon we participated in a Wide game (Damsel in Distress) which included some mental and physical challenges, to eventually rescue our damsel (but she got wet!!)
Most of the organised activities took place on the Sunday. We were able to chose from a long list of activities which included:
Abseiling
Archery
Assault Course
'Blind' Trail
Bungee Run
Canoeing
'Pyromania'
Laser Clay Shooting
Rifle Shooting
Scaletrix
Sweetmaking
All took place in brilliant sunshine as could be noted from the mild sunburn!
In the evening we had a sub-camp BBQ and later had a campfire where we sang a few songs.
On Monday morning before we struck camp, we were awarded the prize for the best Camping Standards. Unfortunately, the rain came before we were packed away. This meant that things got very wet, so everyone got very muddy before going home for a well-earned bath.
