Nowhurst Fun & Freedom Camp, 23rd-25th Sep 2005
This was our last camp of the season and yet again we were lucky with the weather.
We were joined by West Chiltington Guides at the Nowhurst 'Spider' campsite near Horsham.
We arrived late on Friday afternoon and spent the evening pitching our tents and preparing and eating our meal.
After breakfast on Saturday, each patrol was given some money. We then had to plan our main meal and
follow a series of clues to find a supermarket. This involved crossing mainly farmland where there was a close encounter with some inquisitive horses!
Having bought the ingredients, we then had to solve a new set of clues to find a different route back to camp.
Back at camp it was time to start the campfires. Each group had two saucepans and we set to work cooking our meal.
After much smoke we sat down to excellent meals. Some of us took the easy option, with ready prepared meals such as stir-fries, but one group made spaghetti bolognese from scratch. This was complemented with an enormous quantity of pasta and garlic bread.
Desserts varied from group to group, but of course all of us included chocolate!
We explored the camp area during the afternoon before an evening snack and bed.
On Sunday morning, it was time to start clearing up. However, there was still time to explore the dried up (almost) pond and get generally dirty before it was time to go home.
