West Sussex 2008 Camp, 2nd-9th August 2008
We attended the week long West Sussex 2008 Camp at the South of England Showground in Ardingly. This was a huge event with around 3000 scouts and guides, including a large number of international scouts and guides from all over the world.
There were activities throughout the week, ranging from parascending to glass engraving. Most evenings saw us very tired, but then there were more activities like the disco and gang show to really tire us out. There was a go-kart competition with 178 go-karts taking part. We didn't win, but we did made it through to the semi-finals which is quite an achievement as we had never done anything like this before.
In the middle of the week, we held a charity day to raise funds for the Chestnut Tree childrens hospice. Our unit was able to raise over £60.
We had some rain over the week, and scary thunderstorms during one evening, but on the last evening, the weather was fine and dry, so we all slept outside, under the stars.
It was a really fun week and we can't wait to go to the WS camp in 4 years time! A huge thank-you to Sarah for organising and cooking all the food, and thanks also to Min who helped out all over camp, and to John Whittock for helping us build our go-karts. Also lots of thanks to Jane Fella for helping to make the much-admired Sydney collage.
