20th October 2010
This was the final event in the Girlguiding Centenary year. All the units in Chanctonbury District (Chanctonbury Rangers; Storrington and West Chiltington Guides; Storrington, Sullington and West Chiltington Brownies) held a celebration at the the top of the South Downs. Each unit approached the meeting point at the Chantry Post from different directions, which was quite a sight!
It was a cold and clear night and the girls were joined by their leaders and some of the parents for hot soup, rolls and sausages. Lanterns were released into the dark night sky, and exactly 8:10pm (20:20 on 20th of the 10th, 2010) a short ceremony took place before a firework display marked the end of the Centenary year.
Since we were on the top of the Downs, lets hope that the fireworks and celebrations were seen for miles around!
