Petworth Park Camp
29th April to 2nd May
The Royal Wedding meant that we had an extra long weeekend, so the annual camp at Petworth started a day earlier. This meant that we could have three nights away rather than the normal two. The theme for this year's camp was of course the royal wedding, and the sub-camps were named and themed accordingly: Windsor Castle, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace and St.Andrews. We were in the Westminster Abbey camp with Storrington Scouts; Ashington Scouts; Chanctonbury Rangers; and Fittleworth Guides. Even though the temperature was not nearly as scorching as the previous weekend, we had really good weather, and the only rain we had came at nightime!
On the Saturday, many of our activities were based on a set of imflateable games, but we also had the opportunity to try out our navigation and running skills in the Geocaching activity. During the evening everyone in our sub-camp joined together for an excellent barbecue.
Sunday was the main activity day and we had 4 zones to chose from. You can see some of the activities in the photos. We had loads of fun on the lake as usual and were able to try out our communication skills on the blind trial. Both a climbing wall and an abseil tower were heavily used, and it turned out that some of us really are sharp-shooters on the Rifle Range. More traditional activities such as Backwoods cooking and Make-and-Do were also popular.
On Monday it was time to strike camp. Unusually, everything was dry so packing things away was easier than usual. It was a really good camp and it as topped off by our sub-camp winning the 2011 Camp Challenge trophy.
